About Youth in Federal Discourse (YFD):
Youth in Federal Discourse (YFD) is a youth-led, non-governmental organization established in 2019 with a focus on engaging youth in the understanding of federalism and related components of governance. YFD firmly believes that youth are catalysts for change, continuously striving to unlock their potential in addressing policy challenges and bridging gaps in government actions.
Position Overview:
YFD is hiring 2 Desk Researchers for a project aimed at promoting inclusive voter education, electoral reforms, and community engagement. Desk Researchers will support the project by analyzing data, conducting research, and preparing reports. They will focus on Inclusive Civic Education, Voter Awareness, Out-of-District Voting, and Inclusive Direct Elections.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze data collected by Electoral Advocates and integrate it into thematic reports.
- Conduct research on Out-of-District Voting, Inclusive Direct Elections, and Civic Education.
- Develop effective and inclusive data collection tools and methods for Electoral Advocates.
- Finalize and ensure quality, inclusive, and accurate reports.
- Collaborate with Electoral Advocates to ensure coherence between field data and research findings.
- Develop inclusive civic education and voter awareness materials, including social media posters, slides, messages, storytelling, and short videos, based on data and research.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Social Sciences, Research, Political Science, Sociology, Statistics or a related field (last year students or graduates preferred)
- Experience in research and report writing, particularly in electoral processes or social inclusion.
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills in both languages (English and Nepali)
Knowledge & Skills:
- Expertise in research and analysis related to electoral systems.
- Knowledge of inclusive civic education, voter engagement, and electoral reforms.
- Ability to prepare, review, and present clear, detailed reports.
- Proficiency in data interpretation and evidence-based report writing.
Work Conditions:
Work-based contract. Occasional travel outside Kathmandu Valley may be required.
Tasks and Deliverables:
- Prepare comprehensive data collection tools (e.g. survey questions, interview templates etc.) tailored for targeted communities.
- Prepare three thematic reports addressing the challenges, successes and recommendations in the areas of Out-of-District Voting, Inclusive Direct Elections, and Inclusive Civic Education and Voter Awareness.
- Prepare inclusive and accessible civic education and voter awareness materials for use in awareness campaigns.
